We launched the Flaxmore label in 2018 with a single vineyard series of Pinot Gris, Rosé and Pinot Noir, followed by a 2020 Chardonnay. We’re delighted that our wines have been highly awarded with great reviews by leading wine critics Bob Campbell, Michael Cooper and Cameron Douglas (see below).

Pinot Gris 2023

A true single vineyard wine “one clone/one block”. Made from our Pinot Gris “Alsace 457” clone, this is a gentle wine that offers crisp, ripe pear and citrus notes with background spice and a slightly dry finish. The perfect white for both casual and fine dining.

Whole bunch pressed; stainless steel tank fermentation using aromatic yeast; kept on “fine lees” post fermentation (3 months). 13.0% Alc/Vol.

Flaxmore Moutere Pinot Gris 2023 - Awarded 4.5 Stars by Michael Cooper

“Drinking well in its youth, but also worth cellaring, the characterful 2023 vintage (4.5*) was estate-grown and hand-harvested at Upper Moutere. Fermented and lees-aged in stainless steel tanks, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Pale lemon/green, it is fresh and full-bodied, with good intensity of peachy, citrusy flavours, lively acidity, and a finely balanced, basically dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar), smooth finish.”

Rosé 2023

Made from our Pinot Noir clones “Abel” and “Dijon 115” this is a subtle Rosé offering a layer of summer fruits, good length on the palate and a slightly dryer finish than the norm for NZ Rosé. Salmon pink in colour - just gently chill for casual or fine dining.

Hand harvested, 50% skin contact (6 hours); 50% whole bunch press; stainless steel tank fermentation using aromatic yeast; kept on “fine lees” post fermentation (4 months). 13.0% Alc/Vol.

Flaxmore Moutere Rosé 2023 - Awarded 5 Stars by Michael Cooper

“This impressive, well-priced rosé was made from Pinot Noir, estate-grown and hand-picked at Upper Moutere. Tank-fermented with indigenous (‘native’) yeasts, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered.  Pale pink/slight orange, it is fragrant and lively, with generous, ripe peach, strawberry and spice flavours, a hint of apricots, and a dry, sustained finish.  Offering greater complexity than most rosés, it’s delicious now.”

Flaxmore Moutere Pinot Noir 2020 - Awarded 4.5 Stars by Michael Cooper

Estate-grown and hand-picked in the  Moutere hills, this is a characterful, ripely fragrant, savoury and supple red. Matured for a year in French oak casks (15% new), it is bright ruby, with generous cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent depth, complexity and harmony.

Flaxmore Moutere Pinot Noir 2020 - Cameron Douglas MS in August ‘23 Mindfood Magazine

A vibrant bouquet with aromas of freshly harvested blackcurrant and plums, there’s scents of wood and nut, boysenberry and vanilla, a clay stone soil quality and mild toasty wood attributes. On the palate, a dry wine still taut and new with a squeeze of acidity and freshness. It needs some development time to showcase all that it has. RRP from $35”

Chardonnay 2022

Blended from our Chardonnay clones “Mendoza”, “Dijon 95” and “Dijon 15”, this elegant Chardonnay reflects crushed peach and nectarine notes with a hint of citrus. It has a subtle and restrained oak influence, fine acidity and a luscious long finish. A classic Moutere Chardonnay!

Hand harvested; wild fermented; 9 months oak maturation (10% new); coarse filtered; 13.5% Alc/Vol.

Flaxmore Moutere Chardonnay 2021 - Awarded 4.5 Stars by Michael Cooper

Already highly enjoyable, the 2021 vintage (4.5*) was estate-grown and hand-harvested in the Moutere hills, and fermented and matured for nine months in oak barrels (15 per cent new). Bright, light yellow/green, it is an invitingly fragrant, full-bodied wine, with strong, ripe stonefruit flavours, showing very good complexity, finely integrated oak, balanced acidity and a creamy-textured finish. Savoury and harmonious, it should be at its best 2024+

Flaxmore Moutere Chardonnay 2020 - Awarded 5 Stars / 94 Points by NZ Wine Rater

Restrained & complex on the nose with subtle aromas of lemon curd, apple skin, baking spice, smoked tea and toasted sourdough. Vibrant & tasty with a wonderful harmony of fruit and winemaking influence, excellent concentration & poise. This is an elegant, compelling wine. Well done.

Flaxmore Moutere Chardonnay 2020 - Awarded 4 Stars by Cuisine magazine (known to be a tough panel to please!)

An uncluttered and understated style of chardonnay with peaches and cream coming through on the nose. The palate is nicely weighted and beautifully structured with a fine acid line that runs through the length of the wine to its satisfying finish.

For the best Flaxmore experience, we also offer mixed cases.
